First Chemo (1/25/18)

  1. Blinded By Your Grace, Pt. 2
    • Stormzy (feat. MNEK)
  2. White Blood
    • Oh Wonder
    • I did not know this song was connected to cancer until looking for the lyrics, just now, for this post. Throughout chemo I appreciated this song for the melody and the irony of the message and how it pertains to my specific cancer and treatment. The purpose of my chemotherapy was to kill my immune system, including my white blood cells, to resolve the cancer within the system. Goes to show the reaching impacts of cancer.

Said you’d always be my white blood
Circulate the right love
Giving me your white blood
I need you right here with me
Said you’d always be my white blood
Elevate my soul above
Giving me your white blood
I need you right here with me

Here with me

  • Quote from the official website of Oh Wonder: “We wrote ‘White Blood’ to explore the idea of needing immunity from disease, sadness, hopelessness or fear, not only in the physical form of white blood cells, but also with simple human love and support. This song is for you, Steven and Wendi, and for anyone else out there that is dealing with difficult physical or mental health circumstances. We are all here for each other.”

    • The first verse of this song was my senior quote, proving its timelessness in my life. I love the message of this song. Sometimes life is not ok and rather than pretending that it is, I appreciate the message of accepting the poor situation for what it is and its impact but “floating on.”

I backed my car into a cop car the other day
Well, he just drove off – sometimes life’s okay
I ran my mouth off a bit too much, ah what did I say?
Well, you just laughed it off and it was all okay

But, the reason why this song is on my playlist is because it was the song I would dance to, to celebrate going number two. Chemo messes with the digestion system in many ways- it is common for constipation to become an issue. Meaning for me, going was worth a celebration.

      Don’t you want some closure
Before we turn out the light?
      Honey, think of your heart
Yeah, the heart’s too heavy to slow
Partly ’cause it’s running the show
Partly ’cause the beat is connected to the feeling
